COMMENDATIONS: Commends the LSU Eunice softball team on winning the 2019
National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Louisiana State University Eunice Lady Bengals softball team upon
3 winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II
4 championship.
5 WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 25, 2019, the Louisiana State University Eunice
6(LSUE) softball team pounded three home runs early in the final game on the way to a 10-5
7win that completed a sweep through the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association
8Division II championship tournament; and
9 WHEREAS, LSUE's victory over Phoenix College marked the Lady Bengals' sixth
10national softball title, and the team finished with a tremendous wins-losses record of 52-6
11for the season; and
12 WHEREAS, several players for LSUE earned special honors in the tournament,
13among them, Jensen Howell was named Most Outstanding Pitcher; Madison Monson
14delivered a two-run home run, her team-best fourteenth home run of the season and third of
15the national tourney; Abbey Higginbotham hammered home two runs; and Kelci Bodin, who
16crushed a grand slam homer, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for batting
17.313 through five games with eight runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles, two home
18runs, and three stolen bases; and
19 WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, and remarkable athletic feats of the members
20of the LSU Eunice softball team throughout the regular season and the postseason have
21culminated in the coveted 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II

1championship, and each of the Lady Bengals performed at her highest level of excellence
2throughout the season and deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning
3effort; the team's accomplishments would not have been possible without the guidance and
4skills of head coach Andy Lee, his assistants, and all of the individuals who have contributed
5to the success of the school's softball program; and
6 WHEREAS, the team's outstanding season upholds the glorious tradition of the
7Bengals, and all Louisiana State University Eunice alumni and fans recognize the immense
8pride and distinguished honor the team brings to its community.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana State University Eunice
11softball team upon winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association
12Division II championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and
13everyone involved with this fine softball program as they celebrate their exceptional season
14and prepare for continued success in the future.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
16Coach Andy Lee.
