HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 265

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Louisiana State University Eunice Lady Bengals softball team upon
winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II
championship.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 25, 2019, the Louisiana State University Eunice
(LSUE) softball team pounded three home runs early in the final game on the way to a 10-5
win that completed a sweep through the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association
Division II championship tournament; and
WHEREAS, LSUE's victory over Phoenix College marked the Lady Bengals' sixth
national softball title, and the team finished with a tremendous wins-losses record of 52-6
for the season; and
WHEREAS, several players for LSUE earned special honors in the tournament,
among them, Jensen Howell was named Most Outstanding Pitcher; Madison Monson
delivered a two-run home run, her team-best fourteenth home run of the season and third of
the national tourney; Abbey Higginbotham hammered home two runs; and Kelci Bodin, who
crushed a grand slam homer, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for batting
.313 through five games with eight runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles, two home
runs, and three stolen bases; and
WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, and remarkable athletic feats of the members
of the LSU Eunice softball team throughout the regular season and the postseason have
culminated in the coveted 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II
championship, and each of the Lady Bengals performed at her highest level of excellence
throughout the season and deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning

effort; the team's accomplishments would not have been possible without the guidance and
skills of head coach Andy Lee, his assistants, and all of the individuals who have contributed
to the success of the school's softball program; and
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding season upholds the glorious tradition of the
Bengals, and all Louisiana State University Eunice alumni and fans recognize the immense
pride and distinguished honor the team brings to its community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana State University Eunice
softball team upon winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association
Division II championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and
everyone involved with this fine softball program as they celebrate their exceptional season
and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Coach Andy Lee.
