CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of Larry L. Metevia, Sr.
1 A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Larry L.
3 Metevia, Sr.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
5Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Larry L. Metevia, Sr., on
6May 9, 2019, at the age of seventy-four; and
7 WHEREAS, Larry L. Metevia, Sr., was born to Louis Abe and Tina Alexander
8Metevia; and
9 WHEREAS, over the years, Grambling State University has had many great athletes
10who have made a significant impact on the world of sports, and Larry Metevia, Sr., is one
11of those extraordinary sports legends; and
12 WHEREAS, he brought great pride to Grambling State as a first-team All-
13Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) center in 1966, when Grambling won the second
14of four consecutive SWAC titles; and
15 WHEREAS, in July of 2018, Mr. Metevia was inducted into the Grambling Legends
16Sports Hall of Fame in its tenth annual induction ceremony; and
17 WHEREAS, Larry L. Metevia, Sr., one of Louisiana's finest sons, will be
18remembered as an extraordinary man who touched the lives of countless individuals; and
19 WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his wife, Geraldine P. Metevia; daughter,
20Denise Metevia Armstrong, and her husband Shawn; sons, Louis James Metevia, and his
21wife Tricie, and Larry Lawrence Joseph Metevia, Jr.; sister, Joyce D. Metevia; brother,

1Louis Abe Metevia, III; and grandchildren, Shamar Grant-Metevia, Sidney Armstrong,
2Shawn Armstrong, Shelby Armstrong, Logan Metevia, Brandon Hilliard, and Jada Hilliard;
3and
4 WHEREAS, although the death of Larry L. Metevia, Sr., has left a tremendous void
5in the lives of his family and friends, the memory of this treasured gentleman shall live
6forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
8Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express condolences on the death of Larry L. Metevia,
9Sr., and does hereby express deep appreciation for the indelible mark that his enduring
10legacy has left upon Grambling State University and the state of Louisiana.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
12family of Larry L. Metevia, Sr.
