HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 273
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Larry L.
Metevia, Sr.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Larry L. Metevia, Sr., on
May 9, 2019, at the age of seventy-four; and
WHEREAS, Larry L. Metevia, Sr., was born to Louis Abe and Tina Alexander
Metevia; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Grambling State University has had many great athletes
who have made a significant impact on the world of sports, and Larry Metevia, Sr., is one
of those extraordinary sports legends; and
WHEREAS, he brought great pride to Grambling State as a first-team All-
Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) center in 1966, when Grambling won the second
of four consecutive SWAC titles; and
WHEREAS, in July of 2018, Mr. Metevia was inducted into the Grambling Legends
Sports Hall of Fame in its tenth annual induction ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Larry L. Metevia, Sr., one of Louisiana's finest sons, will be
remembered as an extraordinary man who touched the lives of countless individuals; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his wife, Geraldine P. Metevia; daughter,
Denise Metevia Armstrong, and her husband Shawn; sons, Louis James Metevia, and his
wife Tricie, and Larry Lawrence Joseph Metevia, Jr.; sister, Joyce D. Metevia; brother,
Louis Abe Metevia, III; and grandchildren, Shamar Grant-Metevia, Sidney Armstrong,
Shawn Armstrong, Shelby Armstrong, Logan Metevia, Brandon Hilliard, and Jada Hilliard;
and

WHEREAS, although the death of Larry L. Metevia, Sr., has left a tremendous void
in the lives of his family and friends, the memory of this treasured gentleman shall live
forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express condolences on the death of Larry L. Metevia,
Sr., and does hereby express deep appreciation for the indelible mark that his enduring
legacy has left upon Grambling State University and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Larry L. Metevia, Sr.
