COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for its
contributions to the state
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for its cultural and economic
3 contributions to the state of Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana is a federally recognized Indian
5tribe with which the state of Louisiana enjoys a relationship that is mutually productive,
6amicable, and beneficial; the ancestors of today's members of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of
7Louisiana were original residents of this great state; and
8 WHEREAS, the unique heritage crafts produced by members of the Tunica-Biloxi
9Tribe of Louisiana have greatly enriched the artistic, cultural, and spiritual life of Louisiana's
10citizens and visitors, and the economic development projects of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe have
11helped to rejuvenate central Louisiana; more than one thousand employees work the jobs at
12the tribe's Paragon Casino Resort in Avoyelles Parish; the largest employer in central
13Louisiana, Paragon Casino Resort has provided jobs to area residents since its opening
14twenty-five years ago; training, educational opportunities, and prosperity have come to
15citizens of the region through the tribe's business ventures, resulting in the distribution of
16more than $40 million to local governments in the area; and
17 WHEREAS, there are more than twelve hundred members of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe
18of Louisiana who live throughout the United States, primarily in Louisiana, Texas, and
19Illinois; and

1 WHEREAS, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana merits a sincere and heartfelt
2measure of commendation for its wealth of cultural and financial contributions to the state
3upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of Paragon Casino Resort.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for its
6many contributions to the state, including twenty-five years of operating the largest
7employer in central Louisiana, the Paragon Casino Resort, and does hereby extend enduring
8appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor the tribe brings to Avoyelles Parish and to
9Louisiana.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11Tribal Council of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana.
