HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 278

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for its cultural and economic
contributions to the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana is a federally recognized Indian
tribe with which the state of Louisiana enjoys a relationship that is mutually productive,
amicable, and beneficial; the ancestors of today's members of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of
Louisiana were original residents of this great state; and
WHEREAS, the unique heritage crafts produced by members of the Tunica-Biloxi
Tribe of Louisiana have greatly enriched the artistic, cultural, and spiritual life of Louisiana's
citizens and visitors, and the economic development projects of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe have
helped to rejuvenate central Louisiana; more than one thousand employees work the jobs at
the tribe's Paragon Casino Resort in Avoyelles Parish; the largest employer in central
Louisiana, Paragon Casino Resort has provided jobs to area residents since its opening
twenty-five years ago; training, educational opportunities, and prosperity have come to
citizens of the region through the tribe's business ventures, resulting in the distribution of
more than $40 million to local governments in the area; and
WHEREAS, there are more than twelve hundred members of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe
of Louisiana who live throughout the United States, primarily in Louisiana, Texas, and
Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana merits a sincere and heartfelt
measure of commendation for its wealth of cultural and financial contributions to the state
upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of Paragon Casino Resort.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for its
many contributions to the state, including twenty-five years of operating the largest
employer in central Louisiana, the Paragon Casino Resort, and does hereby extend enduring
appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor the tribe brings to Avoyelles Parish and to
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Tribal Council of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana.
