COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Southeastern Louisiana University baseball players Trey
Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf for remarkable heroism in rescuing a woman
from a burning car
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Southeastern Louisiana University baseball players Trey Morgan, Evan Pace,
3 and Kyle Schimpf for remarkable heroism in rescuing a woman from a burning car.
4 WHEREAS, in the summer of 2018, Southeastern Louisiana University baseball
5players Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf were playing for the Port Angeles
6(Washington) Lefties; Trey Morgan, an infielder, is a West Feliciana High School alumnus,
7Evan Pace is a former catcher for Zachary High School, and Kyle Schimpf is a first baseman
8from Covington; and
9 WHEREAS, on June 26, 2018, Morgan, Pace, Schimpf, and their teammates were
10running behind schedule on a trip to Kelowna, Canada, for a game when they spotted a car
11on its side in a ditch along the Trans-Canada Highway; and
12 WHEREAS, Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf sprang into action, rescuing sixty-seven
13year old Linda Jack from the smoking vehicle minutes before it burst into flames; and
14 WHEREAS, after being treated at the scene for a broken hand and cracked sternum,
15Jack caught a ride home with Morgan, Pace, Schimpf, and their teammates on their way to
16the game; and
17 WHEREAS, as members of the Southeastern Louisiana University Baseball program,
18these ball players are committed to excellence in the classroom, in the community, and in
19competition, as stated by the program's mission statement; and

1 WHEREAS, the actions of Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf on that summer day proved
2to be heroic; and
3 WHEREAS, Pace is a general studies major with a 3.38 GPA; Schimpf is also
4majoring in general studies and has a 3.86 GPA; in response to their heroic actions,
5Southeastern alumnus and former baseball player John Manzella established the Trey
6Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf Endowed Scholarship in Baseball; and
7 WHEREAS, Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf are among Louisiana's finest citizens, and
8they merit the highest measure of commendation for their leadership and bravery.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf
11for saving the life of a stranger; does hereby recognize and record for posterity their selfless
12act of bravery and their quick thinking and swift action; and does hereby express its pride
13in the exemplary character of these young Louisiana citizens.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be transmitted
15to Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf.
