HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 29
BY REPRESENTATIVES PUGH AND MUSCAREL LO
A RESOLUTION
To commend Southeastern Louisiana University baseball players Trey Morgan, Evan Pace,
and Kyle Schimpf for remarkable heroism in rescuing a woman from a burning car.
WHEREAS, in the summer of 2018, Southeastern Louisiana University baseball
players Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf were playing for the Port Angeles
(Washington) Lefties; Trey Morgan, an infielder, is a West Feliciana High School alumnus,
Evan Pace is a former catcher for Zachary High School, and Kyle Schimpf is a first baseman
from Covington; and
WHEREAS, on June 26, 2018, Morgan, Pace, Schimpf, and their teammates were
running behind schedule on a trip to Kelowna, Canada, for a game when they spotted a car
on its side in a ditch along the Trans-Canada Highway; and
WHEREAS, Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf sprang into action, rescuing sixty-seven
year old Linda Jack from the smoking vehicle minutes before it burst into flames; and
WHEREAS, after being treated at the scene for a broken hand and cracked sternum,
Jack caught a ride home with Morgan, Pace, Schimpf, and their teammates on their way to
the game; and
WHEREAS, as members of the Southeastern Louisiana University Baseball program,
these ball players are committed to excellence in the classroom, in the community, and in
competition, as stated by the program's mission statement; and
WHEREAS, the actions of Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf on that summer day proved
to be heroic; and
WHEREAS, Pace is a general studies major with a 3.38 GPA; Schimpf is also
majoring in general studies and has a 3.86 GPA; in response to their heroic actions,

Southeastern alumnus and former baseball player John Manzella established the Trey
Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf Endowed Scholarship in Baseball; and
WHEREAS, Morgan, Pace, and Schimpf are among Louisiana's finest citizens, and
they merit the highest measure of commendation for their leadership and bravery.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf
for saving the life of a stranger; does hereby recognize and record for posterity their selfless
act of bravery and their quick thinking and swift action; and does hereby express its pride
in the exemplary character of these young Louisiana citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be transmitted
to Trey Morgan, Evan Pace, and Kyle Schimpf.
