SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes October 21-27, 2019, as Safe Schools Week
in Louisiana

2To recognize October 21-27, 2019, as Safe Schools Week in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, Safe Schools Week, which occurs on October 21-27, 2019, is sponsored
4by the National School Safety Center, or NSSC, state governors, and state superintendents;
5and
6 WHEREAS, Safe Schools Week is also actively supported by local, state, and
7national public officials and various professional organizations; and
8 WHEREAS, the goal of NSSC in this campaign is to motivate education and law
9enforcement policymakers, as well as students, parents, and community residents, to
10advocate for school safety; and
11 WHEREAS, school safety includes keeping campuses free of crime and violence,
12improving discipline, and increasing student attendance; and
13 WHEREAS, in order to ensure the well-being of all children and to ensure that they
14receive a quality education, schools must be safe and free of violence, weapons, and drugs;
15and
16 WHEREAS, independent bus operators also play a pivotal role in school safety by
17safely transporting students to and from school, but unfortunately, this important role is not
18always fully appreciated.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize October 21-27, 2019, as Safe Schools Week
21in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all citizens of the state of Louisiana to recognize

1the pivotal contributions of transportation workers and others in helping to make the state's
2schools safe.
