HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 293
BY REPRESENTATIVE ARMES
A RESOLUTION
To recognize October 21-27, 2019, as Safe Schools Week in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Safe Schools Week, which occurs on October 21-27, 2019, is sponsored
by the National School Safety Center, or NSSC, state governors, and state superintendents;
and
WHEREAS, Safe Schools Week is also actively supported by local, state, and
national public officials and various professional organizations; and
WHEREAS, the goal of NSSC in this campaign is to motivate education and law
enforcement policymakers, as well as students, parents, and community residents, to
advocate for school safety; and
WHEREAS, school safety includes keeping campuses free of crime and violence,
improving discipline, and increasing student attendance; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure the well-being of all children and to ensure that they
receive a quality education, schools must be safe and free of violence, weapons, and drugs;
and
WHEREAS, independent bus operators also play a pivotal role in school safety by
safely transporting students to and from school, but unfortunately, this important role is not
always fully appreciated.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize October 21-27, 2019, as Safe Schools Week
in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all citizens of the state of Louisiana to recognize
the pivotal contributions of transportation workers and others in helping to make the state's
schools safe.
