HLS 19RS-3749 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 299 BY REPRESENTATIVE GAINES COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Southern University at New Orleans women's track and field team on winning four titles at the 2019 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Track and Field championships 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Southern University at New Orleans women's track and field team upon 3 winning four national titles in the 2019 National Association of Intercollegiate 4 Athletics outdoor track and field championships. 5 WHEREAS, the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights track 6and field team competed in the 2019 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 7(NAIA) women's outdoor track and field championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and 8finished second to University of British Columbia by only two points; and 9 WHEREAS, in the 4 x 100 meter relay, Kerry Ann Scott, Stacey Ann Williams, 10Kimone Hinds, and Argyana Bolton won with a time of 45.46; the last time SUNO won the 114 x 100 meter relay in the national tournament was in 1998; and 12 WHEREAS, Kimona Smikle earned her second straight 400 meter hurdle 13championship with a time of 59.27; and 14 WHEREAS, freshman Stacey Ann Williams won her first 400 meter title with a time 15of 52.00; it was SUNO's fourth consecutive title in the 400 meter race; and 16 WHEREAS, the 4 x 400 meter team of Argyana Bolton, Kimona Smikle, Xuxa Peart, 17and Stacey Ann Williams finished first in the event with a time of 3:38.22, which was 18SUNO's fourth consecutive title and its eighth overall in the 4 x 400 meter relay; and 19 WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without 20the unwavering dedication, support, guidance, and skills of Coach Younne Reid and his Page 1 of 2 HLS 19RS-3749 ORIGINAL HR NO. 299 1staff; and it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved national titles the Lady Knights 2earned, to recognize their abilities, particularly at the most difficult level of competition, and 3to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to team members and coaches for the merits 4earned and the sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest national track and field 5honors possible for Southern University at New Orleans. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Southern University at New Orleans 8women's outdoor track and field team on winning four titles at the 2019 National Association 9of Intercollegiate Athletics championships; does hereby record for posterity this exceptional 10team's triumph in the sport of track and field; and does hereby extend best wishes to the 11players, coaches, and all those involved in the track and field program as they celebrate their 12championship season and prepare for continued athletic success and life accomplishments 13in the future. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 15Coach Younne Reid.
