HLS 19RS-3743 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 300 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates June 4, 2019, as Girl Scouts of the United States of America Day at the state capitol and recognizes the one hundred seventh anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouting 1 A RESOLUTION 2To designate Tuesday, June 4, 2019, as Girl Scouts of the United States of America Day at 3 the state capitol and to recognize the one hundred seventh anniversary of the 4 founding of Girl Scouting. 5 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the United States of America is the world's largest and 6most preeminent organization dedicated solely to all girls everywhere and to helping girls 7build character and gain skills for success in the real world; and 8 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in girl scouting, 9represents excellence and leadership for girls worldwide; girls who pursue the award aspire 10to transform an idea and vision for change into an actionable plan with far reaching results; 11and 12 WHEREAS, the young women in Louisiana who have earned the 2019 Girl Scout 13Gold Award and will advance to become community leaders are Alyssa Bertrand of New 14Iberia, Kalani Briggs of Metairie, Megan Dawson of Metairie, Kaitlyn Esneault of Metairie, 15Cecilia Falkenstein of Mandeville, Sara Howell of Slidell, Meghan Lackner of Mandeville, 16Calyn Lamanno of Monroe, Anne Marie Licata of Jefferson, Mallory Messina of Kenner, 17Olivia Messina of Kenner, Macie Monte of New Iberia, Victoria Mordica of Metairie, Lexus 18Pham of Baton Rouge, Jordan Smith of Geismar, Caitlin Weid of Covington, and Kayla 19Wort of Mandeville; and Page 1 of 3 HLS 19RS-3743 ORIGINAL HR NO. 300 1 WHEREAS, in 2018 and 2019, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf and 2Girl Scouts Louisiana East served more than twenty-two thousand girls in six program 3levels; and 4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize and commend the Girl Scouts of 5Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf and Girl Scouts of Louisiana East for serving girls in Louisiana 6through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which helps girls develop a solid foundation 7in leadership through core programs around science, technology, engineering, math, 8environmental stewardship, healthy living, financial literacy, and global citizenship; and 9 WHEREAS throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has welcomed girls 10and women from every background as members and has instilled them with courage, 11confidence, and character to make the world a better place; and 12 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout program is based on leadership development, discovering 13a strong sense of self and positive values, connecting with others to build healthy 14relationships and advance diversity in a multicultural world, and taking action to meet 15community needs; and 16 WHEREAS, during the past one hundred seven years, over fifty-five million 17American women have participated in Girl Scouting, and this enduring tradition continues 18to strengthen individual communities and our society as a whole. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Tuesday, June 4, 2019, as Girl Scouts of the 21United States of America Day at the state capitol and recognize the one hundred seventh 22anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouting; does hereby commend the organization for its 23many contributions and continued dedication to girls in the United States of America and 24around the world; and does hereby welcome members of the Girl Scouts of the United States 25as they visit the capitol on this special and memorable occasion. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 27Girl Scouts of the United States of America, to Girl Scouts of Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf, 28and to Girl Scouts of Louisiana East.
