BY REPRESENTATIVES GAINES, BAGNERIS, BOUIE, BRASS, CARPENTER, GARY
CARTER, COX, DUPLESSIS, FRANKLIN, GLOVER, JIMMY HARRIS,
JACKSON, JAMES, JEFFERSON, JENKINS, JORDAN, TERRY LANDRY,

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Calvin Mills, Jr., on being named the 2019 Lew
Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year by the National Small Business
Association
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Calvin Mills, Jr., on being recognized as the 2019 Lew Shattuck Small
3 Business Advocate of the Year by the National Small Business Association.
4 WHEREAS, the National Small Business Association (NSBA) is the nation's oldest
5and longest-running small business advocacy organization, advocating for the interests of
6customers, companies, and communities to help ensure the continued viability of the small
7business way of life before the United States Congress, White House, and federal agencies;
8and
9 WHEREAS, the NSBA's membership comprises more than sixty-five thousand small
10businesses in all fifty states representing every industry; and
11 WHEREAS, the NSBA's Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year award
12recognizes small business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for the small
13business community and who meet a set of demanding qualifications and criteria; and 
14 WHEREAS, a New Orleans native, Calvin Mills, Jr., is the first recipient of this
15award from the great state of Louisiana; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills is an award-winning serial tech entrepreneur and graduate of
17Southern University in Baton Rouge who built his platform in the information technology
18arena from humble beginnings; and

1 WHEREAS, he is succeeding as the founder, chief executive officer, and president
2of CMC Technology Solutions and SLT Technology, Incorporated; and
3 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills has focused his pursuit on making a people-focused mark in
4his industry; today, he is a dynamic speaker, mentor, and author who continues to make a
5difference in the lives of the next generation of entrepreneurs; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills's accomplishments have been acknowledged by his peers
7through numerous awards, including the 2018 Black Enterprise Magazine BE 100 Modern
8Man, 2017 Southern University Excellence in Leadership award, 2006 U.S. Department of
9Homeland Security Small Business Achievement award, and the 2006 Louisiana Business
10and Technology Center Small Business Development Center Client of the Year award;
11additionally in 2019 he was named to the National Small Business Association board of
12trustees; and
13 WHEREAS, in 2016 he was one of fifty business leaders invited to the White House
14Business Summit; in 2008 he received two awards from the U.S. Small Business
15Administration: the Louisiana District Capital Region Small Business Champion of the Year
16and the Louisiana Minority Small Business Statewide Champion of the Year; and
17 WHEREAS, Calvin Mills, Jr., is an accomplished businessman who represents the
18state of Louisiana well as he travels the nation sharing his information technology expertise
19and serving as an excellent role model for the next generation of entrepreneurs.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
21Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Calvin Mills, Jr., on being recognized as the
222019 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year by the National Small Business
23Association; does hereby express its congratulations for a job well done; and does hereby
24convey its best wishes for all his future aspirations.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
26Calvin Mills, Jr.
