RÉSUMÉ DIGEST HR 303 2019 Regular Session Huval Creates the Wireless Telecommunications and Vehicle Safety Study Commission to study the use of a wireless telecommunications device while operating a motor vehicle. Provides that the commission be comprised of the following: the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections or his designee, a representative of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of state police, as appointed by the superintendent, the president of the La. Sheriffs' Association or his designee, the president of the La. Association of Chiefs of Police or his designee, and the chief executive officer of StopDistractions.org or his designee. Requires the commission study the following: the magnitude of the problem; crash types involving the use of a wireless telecommunications device while operating a motor vehicle, whether fatal or non-fatal, single vehicle or multiple vehicle, and the age of the people or person involved; contrast crash types involving the use of a wireless telecommunications device while driving as opposed to crash types that do not involve the use of a wireless telecommunications device while driving; and strategies that have the potential for reducing the use of a wireless telecommunications device while operating a motor vehicle. Requires the commission to submit a report detailing the results of its study and its recommendations to the legislature prior to Feb. 1, 2020.
