HLS 19RS-3087 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 314 BY REPRESENTATIVE CREWS PUBLIC SFTY/DEPARTMENT: Urges and requests the Department of Public Safety, office of state police, to study methods of enhancing security measures at the Governor's Mansion 1 A RESOLUTION 2To urge and request the Department of Public Safety, office of state police, to study methods 3 of enhancing security measures at the Governor's Mansion. 4 WHEREAS, the Governor's Mansion should be one of the most secure buildings in 5the state of Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, the Governor's Mansion houses the highest elected official in the state 7and his family; and 8 WHEREAS, shortly before 6:00 o'clock in the morning on April 17, 2019, an 9intruder was found in the Governor's Mansion asleep on the couch; and 10 WHEREAS, a breach of security should never occur in a building housing the state's 11top elected official; and 12 WHEREAS, although the Governor indicated that he and his family were never at 13risk, this incident exposed flaws in the security protocols currently in place at the Governor's 14Mansion; and 15 WHEREAS, it is imperative that these security measures are reviewed and evaluated 16to assess the vulnerability of the mansion and to identify the security standards necessary to 17ensure that the leader of the state of Louisiana and his family are safe and secure while 18occupying the Governor's Mansion. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Public Safety and Page 1 of 2 HLS 19RS-3087 ORIGINAL HR NO. 314 1Corrections, office of state police, to study methods of enhancing security measures at the 2Governor's Mansion. 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Public Safety and 4Corrections, office of state police, shall submit a report, that includes a risk and vulnerability 5assessment, along with methods of improving security of the building, detailing the results 6of its study and its recommendations to the House of Representatives of the Legislature of 7Louisiana no later than February 1, 2020. 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 9deputy secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
