HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 36

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the St. Scholastica Academy girls' soccer team on
winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association
Division I state championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the St. Scholastica Academy girls soccer team upon winning the 2019
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division I state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the St. Scholastica Academy Doves have won seven Louisiana High
5School Athletic Association (LHSAA) soccer state championships since 1996 and have
6hoisted nineteen district championship trophies in that impressive run of wins; and
7 WHEREAS, on Friday, February 22, 2019, St. Scholastica Academy took its third
8match of the season against rival Northshore in a thrilling 2-1 win for the LHSAA Division
9I state title and lived up to its MaxPreps No. 1 national ranking; and
10 WHEREAS, the state championship was the culmination of a 19-0-3 unbeaten season
11for St. Scholastica Academy and was the second consecutive soccer title for the Doves; each
12student athlete on the team performed at the highest levels of excellence throughout the
13season and deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning effort: seniors
14Elizabeth Kalmbach, Kiki Kelly, Sarah Lombas, Isabella Pflug, Peyton Scheuermann, Renin
15Shepherd, and Sydney Vincens; juniors Camryn Donahue, Emma Hillberry, Olivia LaCava,
16Sarah Massey, Marion Scott, Brooke Vanas, and Mary Ella White; sophomores Madi
17Berger, Aimee Cazayoux, Alyssa Menesses, and Hailey Waterhouse; freshmen Shelby
18Donahue, Olivia Loukatos, and Olivia Quiroz; and eighth grader Allie Robison, all of whom 
19comported themselves magnificently in the season's games; and

1 WHEREAS, head coach Matt Jacques, assistant coach, Kyle Smith, eighth grade
2coach Chad Creger; team managers Chloe Chehardy and Ella Long; and athletic director
3Charles Richard, capably and admirably performed their jobs throughout the season, which
4contributed to the success of the soccer program; the administrative support of the school's
5principal, Dr. Cissy LaForge, was invaluable to the team achieving its winning season; and
6 WHEREAS, Coach Jacques has instilled an ethic of winning in these student athletes,
7and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to success both on and
8off the field for the team; and
9 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Doves have
10earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the most
11difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team
12members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
13achieving the highest state girls' soccer honor possible for St. Scholastica Academy.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
15Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes, coach, and
16management staff of the St. Scholastica Academy girls' soccer team for winning the 2019
17LHSAA Division I state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season; and does
18hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor they have
19brought to their school and community.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
21to head coach Matt Jacques.
