HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 38
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as LSU Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, through its eight institutions, Louisiana State University, or LSU,
possesses the most comprehensive education system in the state, with a public mission
focused on education, research, and outreach; and
WHEREAS, in a recent study, Forbes magazine ranked LSU among the top 20
universities in the nation for academics and athletics; and
WHEREAS, LSU is the largest university in the state; it educates more than forty-
eight thousand students and maintains the highest graduation rate among Louisiana's public
universities; and
WHEREAS, LSU's educational mission encompasses an array of academic
programs, from two-year programs through doctoral programs, including law and medicine,
in addition to expanded offerings in online education; and
WHEREAS, the only schools in the state for dentistry and veterinary medicine are
found within the LSU system; and
WHEREAS, fifty-one percent of the state's certified Centers of Excellence are within
the LSU system; and
WHEREAS, LSU has more than one billion dollars in research funding, and
researchers in the LSU system are working on a wide range of innovations to improve the
quality of life for Louisianians and citizens nationwide by studying subjects such as disease
management, advanced medical treatments, obesity, coastal protection, hurricane
preparedness, energy, natural resource management, and agriculture; and
WHEREAS, LSU employs an excellent faculty that includes world renowned
scholar-teachers who are nationally competitive in research and creative activities, and who

collectively contribute to a knowledge base that is educationally, culturally, and
economically beneficial; and
WHEREAS, the LSU faculty use their extensive talent and resources to solve
economic, environmental, and social challenges; and
WHEREAS, the generosity of the citizens of Louisiana and the nation have
contributed to the economic well-being of LSU, and LSU has, in turn, provided quality
education, basic and applied research, novel and state of the art discoveries in all fields,
numerous hours of volunteer work, and valuable public service; and
WHEREAS, LSU is Louisiana's most important economic asset; it contributes more
than $5.1 billion to state sales and provides an estimated forty-one thousand jobs with more
than $1.9 billion in new statewide earnings, thus demonstrating that for every dollar given
by the state to LSU, LSU gives back $13.25; and
WHEREAS, LSU is consistently ranked as one of the country's top values by
Kiplinger, Forbes, Money, SmartAsset, and PayScale; and
WHEREAS, LSU remains one of the greatest investments for the state of Louisiana
and is one that improves the quality of life for all Louisianians.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as LSU Day at the
state capitol and does hereby acknowledge the university's valuable contributions to the
residents of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the LSU president, F. King Alexander.
