HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 62

A RESOLUTION
To recognize April 23, 2019, as REALTOR Day at the state capitol in recognition of the
Louisiana REALTORS' centennial anniversary.
WHEREAS, Louisiana REALTORS is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary of
being a trusted voice of real estate in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in 1919, real estate boards in Alexandria, New Orleans, and Shreveport
united to create the statewide association that is known today as Louisiana REALTORS; and
WHEREAS, in 1920, R.R. Emery of Shreveport became the first president of
Louisiana REALTORS, and the process of building the real estate profession in Louisiana
commenced; and
WHEREAS, the governing documents of Louisiana REALTORS provide that the
purpose of the association is to promote and maintain the highest standards of conduct in the
real estate transaction and to promote the welfare of the real estate business, property
owners, and in general, the good people of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in 1946, Louisiana REALTORS was accepted as a member of the
National Association of REALTORS, a national association of over one million three
hundred thousand members with a purpose of raising standards of real estate practice and
preserving the right of property ownership in the interest of the public welfare; and
WHEREAS, since 1919, the members of Louisiana REALTORS have worked as
tireless advocates for the real estate industry and the people of Louisiana by promoting the
passage of laws to provide for equal opportunity for housing, constitutionally prohibit taxes
on the transfer of property, and countless other measures; and
WHEREAS, in its one hundred year history, Louisiana REALTORS has provided
a facility for education, research, and the exchange of information for those engaged in the

real estate business and has served to promote the interest, dignity, and character of the real
estate profession in Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby declare that April 23, 2019, is REALTOR Day at the
state capitol, commend Louisiana REALTORS' more than fourteen thousand members
statewide for their work for the people of Louisiana and the real estate industry, congratulate
them for being the trusted voice of real estate in Louisiana for the past one hundred years,
and wish them many more successful years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the chief executive officer of Louisiana REALTORS.
