HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 7

A RESOLUTION
To commend Bruce Daigrepont upon his 2019 induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center
Hall of Master Folk Artists.
WHEREAS, established in 1976, the Louisiana Folklife Center is a research facility
that serves as an archival repository of eight hundred artist and subject files, one thousand
five hundred audio recordings, one hundred videotapes, a growing print library of books and
periodicals, and five thousand photographs; these resources have been used by CBS Evening
News, Turner Broadcasting Company, and Louisiana Public Broadcasting and other
individuals, groups, and agencies; its faculty also coordinates the Natchitoches-Northwestern
State University Folklife Festival; and
WHEREAS, an agency of Northwestern State University, the Center's mission is to
identify, document, and present Louisiana's rich history of folklore and folklife; and
WHEREAS, music is woven into the tapestry of Louisiana folklife, and New Orleans
native Bruce Daigrepont was born into a musical family; he grew up in Avoyelles Parish,
steeped in Cajun traditions and folk music; at the age of five, he learned to play the guitar,
and by his tenth birthday, Bruce was learning the five-string banjo; and
WHEREAS, after attending Festival Acadiens in Lafayette, Bruce devoted himself
to the French accordion; by 1980 he had assembled his own Cajun band; Bruce honed his
skills at fais do-do dances and has emerged as one of Cajun music's finest cultural
ambassadors; and
WHEREAS, the melodic aptitude of Bruce Daigrepont has opened performance
doors for him at such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center in New York and the National
Folk Festival; he has performed with his band in El Salvador and Venezuela at the request
of the countries' American embassies; and

WHEREAS, fully immersed in the Cajun traditions, Bruce sings his songs in French;
he is a singer-songwriter extraordinaire, and his original compositions "Marksville Two
Step" and "Nonc Willie" are in the standard repertoire of Cajun dance bands; and
WHEREAS, a much-beloved native son of Louisiana whose musical professionalism
represents the best of the state's Cajun culture, Bruce Daigrepont merits a special measure
of commendation upon his 2019 induction into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master
Folk Artists.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Bruce Daigrepont upon his 2019 induction
into the Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists; does hereby congratulate him
on his lifetime of musicianship and musical achievements; and does hereby extend to him
every good wish for continued success, prosperity, and happiness in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Bruce Daigrepont.
