HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 88

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Mansfield High School girls' basketball team on
winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state
championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Mansfield High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2019
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship.
4 WHEREAS, on March 2, 2019, in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association
5Tournament in the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria, the Lady Wolverines of Mansfield High
6School defeated district rival North Caddo High School in the tournament title game by a
7score of 42-34 and earned the school's first-ever state championship in basketball; and
8 WHEREAS, Sha'Kahia Warmsley, who was named the game's Most Valuable
9Player, led the way for the Lady Wolverines; Sha'Kahia played all thirty-two minutes of the
10title game and scored a game-high 17 points to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals;
11and
12 WHEREAS, the Lady Wolverines finished the regular season with an overall wins-
13losses record of 32-3 and were 2018-2019 District 1-2A champions with a district record of
147-1; for the first time in school history, the Lady Wolverines returned home victorious from
15the LHSAA basketball playoffs with the championship trophy in tow; and
16 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Head Coach Kendra Neal Jones and her assistant
17coaches, Sam Neal and Shalaya O'Neal, and with the help of the team's manager, Talaya
18Jones, and other support staff, each member of the Mansfield girls' basketball team exerted
19the energy and discipline necessary to become champions and is worthy of mention: Jada
20Burrell, Meliyah Canada, who also received All-District honorable mention, Taylor Dewitt,

1who also was named to the All-District first team, All-Area, and received a Louisiana Sports
2Writers Association All-State honorable mention, Ayanna Knuckles, Cheseney Malone,
3Peyton Peoples, who also was named to the All-District second team, Jeleal Samuels,
4D'Marchay Scott, who also received All-District honorable mention, Cierra Taylor, Shakahia
5Warmsley, who was named to the All-District first team, Most Outstanding Player in Class
62A, and earned All-Area and Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-State honors,
7Shakorryah Wyatt, and Alexus Youngblood; and
8 WHEREAS, Coach Jones was named the 2018-2019 All-District Coach of the Year
9and All-Area Coach of the Year; she has instilled an ethic of winning in these exceptional
10young women and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to
11success both on and off the court for the Mansfield Lady Wolverines; and
12 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Mansfield High
13School Lady Wolverines have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have
14displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and
15heartfelt congratulations to team members and the coaching staff for the merits earned and
16the sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest state girls' basketball honor possible
17for Mansfield High School.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the student athletes,
20coaches, and staff of the Mansfield High School girls' basketball team for winning the 2019
21Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship and completing
22a truly spectacular season; and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance
23and the pride and honor they have brought to their school and community.
24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head
25Coach Kendra Neal Jones.
