HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91

ENERGY/OIL & GAS:  Designates Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as Oil and Natural Gas
Industry Day at the state capitol
1	A RESOLUTION
2To designate Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as the fifth annual Oil and Natural Gas Industry Day
3 at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of Louisiana residents depend on the oil and
5natural gas industry for their livelihoods, from rigs to office jobs, and more than two hundred
6sixty thousand Louisianans are employed by the oil and natural gas industry; and
7 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry continues to be the foundation of the
8state's economy with a $72.8 billion economic impact, generating over $19 billion in
9household earnings for Louisianans, with energy jobs and earnings found in all but one of
10the state's sixty-four parishes; and
11 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry not only brings jobs to cities and
12parishes in Louisiana, but it injects money into the local economy and Louisiana oil and
13natural gas enables communities to not only survive, but to thrive; and
14 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry is one of the biggest contributors to
15Louisiana's economy, paying nearly $2 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the state
16treasury that helps pay for schools, health care, roads, and other state-funded initiatives; and
17 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry in Louisiana is the biggest private
18investor in the state's coast, funding research, working with top scientists, and investing in
19dozens of private and public projects that all work to protect and improve our coastline; and 
20 WHEREAS, Louisiana is the nation's number two producer of crude oil and the
21number four producer of natural gas among the fifty states, ranks number two among the

1states in petroleum refining capacity with its eighteen refineries, and has over ninety-two
2thousand miles of pipelines transporting crude petroleum and natural gas within the state and
3in its offshore area of the Gulf of Mexico.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as the fifth annual
6Oil and Natural Gas Industry Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the industry
7for more than a century of partnership with Louisiana, providing jobs and economic benefits
8for the state while providing the energy that fuels a nation.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
10members of the United States Congress as an expression of the support of the Legislature
11of Louisiana for the oil and natural gas industry in Louisiana.
