SENATE BILL NO. 11

LOCAL AGENCIES.  Authorizes an increase in the membership of the boards of
commissioners of the consolidated gravity drainage districts of Calcasieu Parish. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 38:1843(C), relative to the boards of commissioners of the consolidated
3 gravity drainage districts of Calcasieu Parish; to authorize an increase in the
4 membership of the boards of commissioners; and to provide for related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 38:1843(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง1843.  Board of commissioners

10	C. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection A of this Section, the
11 boards of commissioners of the consolidated gravity drainage districts of
12 Calcasieu Parish may consist of seven members, subject to all other
13 requirements of qualifications for office provided in Subsection A of this
14 Section. 
15 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
16 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
17 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If

1 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
2 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law authorizes the police jury creating the consolidated gravity drainage districts to
appoint five commissioners of the districts. 
Proposed law authorizes the governing authority of Calcasieu Parish to increase the number
of board commissioners from five to seven for their consolidated gravity drainage districts. 
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
