LOCAL EMPLOYEES.  Provides for an exception to certification for court reporters in the
Juvenile Court for Caddo Parish. (8/1/19)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 37:2554(B)(3), relative to certified shorthand reporters; to provide an
3 exception for certain employees of the Juvenile Court for Caddo Parish; to provide
4 for a certain date; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 37:2554(B)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows:

11	(3) Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary and for
12 the Juvenile Court for Caddo Parish, any person duly holding a certification
13 from a recognized authority in the practice of digital reporting as defined in
14 R.S. 37:2555, or any person employed on or before December 31, 2019, as an
15 official court reporter or deputy official court reporter by a court of record
16 utilizing electronic or audio recording as a method of official court reporting,
17 shall be certified as long as they remain employed by the Juvenile Court for

Present law provides that persons employed as office court reporters and deputy court
reporters of a court of record shall be subject to the certification requirements applicable to
certified court reporters.  Further provides that any person employed as a court reporter or
deputy court reporter on or before December 31, 2011, by a court which uses electronic or
audio recording equipment shall be certified as long as he remains employed by that court
in such capacity.
Present law excludes certain courts from the certification requirements applicable to certified
court reporters.
Proposed law retains present law but provides for an exception for the Juvenile Court for
Caddo Parish authorizing any person, which uses electronic or audio recording equipment,
employed as a court reporter or deputy court reporter on or before December 31, 2019, shall
be certified as long as he remains employed by the court in such capacity.
Effective August 1, 2019.
