2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 15 BY SENATORS LONG, ALARIO, APPEL, BARROW, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, COLOMB, CORTEZ, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH AND WHITE Prefiled pursuant to Article III, Section 2(A)(4)(b)(i) of the Constitution of Louisiana. 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 11:612(2)(m), relative to qualifications for membership in the 3 hazardous duty service plan at the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System; 4 to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters. 5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 11:612(2)(m) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง612. Application; definitions 9 Terms not specifically defined in this Section but defined in R.S. 11:403 shall 10 have the meanings provided in R.S. 11:403 unless a different meaning is clearly 11 required by the context. For purposes of this Subpart: 12 * * * 13 (2) "Member" or "members" shall include the following persons whose first 14 employment making them eligible for membership in one of the state systems 15 occurred on or after January 1, 2011: 16 * * * 17 (m) Employees of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry who respond 18 to wildfires and who qualify as Firefighter Type 2 or higher according to the 19 National Wildfire Coordinating Group are trained as wildland firefighters, as 20 provided in R.S. 3:4276(9). This Act shall become effective on June 30, 2019; if vetoed by the 2 governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on 3 June 30, 2019, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.
