PARISHES.  Authorizes the governing authority of Acadia Parish to elect a secretary-
treasurer. (8/1/19)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 33:1651(C), relative to the governing authority of Acadia Parish; to provide
3 relative to the term of office of the parish secretary-treasurer; and to provide for
4 related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 33:1651(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง1651. Election and term; location of office; removal for cause; exceptions

10	C. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection A of this Section, the
11 governing authority of Acadia Parish shall elect a parish secretary-treasurer for
12 a term of four years.  The secretary-treasurer's term shall be concurrent with
13 the term of the members of the parish governing authority.  If a vacancy occurs
14 other than by an expiration of the term, it shall be filled by appointment by the
15 parish governing authority for the unexpired term.

Present law authorizes the police jury to elect a parish treasurer for a term of two years. 
Requires that the office be located at a site designated by the local governing authority and
further requires the parish treasurer to maintain an office at the parish seat.
Proposed law retains present law and provides an exception for Acadia Parish.  Requires the
parish governing authority to elect the parish secretary-treasurer for a term of four years.
Further proposed law provides that the secretary-treasurer's term is concurrent with the term
of the parish governing authority members.
Present law provides for the governing authority of Acadia Parish to make an appointment
if a vacancy occurs prior to the expiration of a term.
Effective August 1, 2019.
