ACT 175 (SB 18) 2019 Regular Session Hensgens
Prior law authorized the police jury to elect a parish treasurer for a term of two years.
Required that the office be located at a site designated by the local governing authority and
further requires the parish treasurer to maintain an office at the parish seat.
New law retains prior law and provides an exception for Acadia Parish. Requires the parish
governing authority to elect the parish secretary-treasurer for a term of four years. Further
provides that the secretary-treasurer's term is concurrent with the term of the parish
governing authority members.
New law provides that the governing authority of Acadia Parish make an appointment if a
vacancy occurs prior to the expiration of a term.
Effective August 1, 2019.
