PUBLIC SFTY/CORRECT DEPT.  Extends the insurance fraud investigation unit within
the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the insurance fraud prevention act.

1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1931.13 and R.S. 40:1429, relative to insurance fraud; to
3 extend the insurance fraud investigation unit with the Department of Public Safety
4 and Corrections; to extend the Sledge Jeansonne Louisiana Insurance Fraud
5 Prevention Act; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1429 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
8 §1429. Effectiveness of Subpart
9	This Subpart shall be null, void, and unenforceable on July 1, 2019 2021.
10 Section 2.  R.S. 22:1931.13 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
11 §1931.13. Termination of Part
12	This Part shall terminate on August 1, 2019 July 1, 2021.
13 Section 3.  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2019; if vetoed by the governor
14 and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1,
15 2019, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.

Proposed law changes the termination date of the Sledge Jeansonne Louisiana Insurance
Fraud Prevention Act, authorizing the attorney general to pursue a civil action against
anyone who commits fraud or any other illegal practice to obtain insurance payments, from
July 1, 2019 to July 1, 2021.
Proposed law extends the insurance fraud investigation unit in the Dept. of Public Safety and
Corrections, scheduled to terminate on July 1, 2019, until July 1, 2021.
Effective July 1, 2019.
