RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 25 (SB 24) 2019 Regular Session Peacock Prior law provided with respect to eligibility for normal retirement benefits from the Assessors' Retirement Fund (R.S. 11:1421), which benefits include the payment of certain types of insurance premiums. (1)Provides that a person hired on or before Sept. 30, 2013, may retire with: (a)At least 12 years of service if the person is at least 55 years of age; or (b)At least 30 years of service at any age. (2) Provides that a person hired on or after Oct. 1, 2013, may retire with: (a)At least 12 years of service if the person is at least 60 years of age; or (b)At least 30 years of service if the person is at least 55 years of age. Prior law provided additional normal retirement eligibility requirements for retirees from the assessors' offices in the parishes of: Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, DeSoto, East Baton Rouge, Franklin, Iberia, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, LaSalle, Lincoln, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Orleans, Ouachita, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, and West Feliciana. Specifically, provided: (1)That a person elected, appointed, or hired before August 1, 2014, may retire with: (a)Normal retirement eligibility under Title 11 of LRS; and (b)At least 20 years of service. (2)That a person elected, appointed or hired on or after August 1, 2014, may retire with: (a)Normal retirement eligibility under Title 11 of LRS; and (b)At least 20 years of service; and (c)At least 12 years of service credit earned at the assessor's office from which the person retires. New law adds Caddo parish to the list of parishes with the additional normal retirement eligibility requirements. Effective upon signature of the governor (May 30, 2019).
