DIGEST SB 240 Original 2019 Regular Session Boudreaux Present law provides for scope of practice and regulation of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) and physician assistants (PAs). Proposed law provides that APRNs and PAs may provide medication-assisted treatment in accordance with federal and state laws and state rules governing MAT services. Proposed law provides that, at a minimum, state rules shall require the APRN's collaborating physician and the PA's supervising physician to be authorized and in compliance with all federal and state laws and rules authorizing the provision of MAT. Proposed law defines MAT as the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders and prevent opioid overdose. Effective August 1, 2019.
