HEALTH CARE.  Provides relative to the Louisiana Health Works Commission. (8/1/19)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(16), (G)(3), and (L), relative to the Louisiana
3 Health Works Commission; to provide for membership of the commission; to
4 provide for membership of the executive committee; to provide for study and
5 recommendation issues; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 17:2048.51(C)(16), (G)(3), and (L) are hereby amended and
8 reenacted to read as follows:
9 ยง2048.51. Louisiana Health Works Commission; creation; membership;
10	compensation; staff and facilities; powers and duties; data collection
11	and reporting

13	C. The following shall serve as members of the Louisiana Health Works
14 Commission:

16	(16) The presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the Future of
17 Family Medicine president of the University of Louisiana System or his designee.

2	G. There shall be an executive committee composed of the following:

4	(3) The presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the Future of
5 Family Medicine president of the University of Louisiana System or his designee
6 for the commission.

8	L. The commission shall study and make recommendations on at least the
9 following education issues:
10	(1) Increasing the capacity of existing current education programs to
11 maintain or increase the supply of health care professionals in Louisiana.
12	(2) Incentive programs for healthcare program faculty retention.
13	(3) Strategies to increase access of eligible individuals to appropriate entry-
14 level educational programs.
15	(4) Recruitment and retention models for students in the health care field.
16	(5) Strategies to implement a nursing articulation plan.

Present law creates the Louisiana Health Works Commission and provides for 18 members.
Proposed law replaces the presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the Future of
Family Medicine or his designee with the president of the University of Louisiana System
or his designee as a commission member.
Present law provides for an executive committee of the commission composed of seven
members. Proposed law replaces the presiding officer of the Interagency Task Force on the
Future of Family Medicine or his designee with the president of the University of Louisiana
System or his designee as a member of the executive committee of the commission. 
Present law provides for education issues for the commission to study and make
recommendations to the legislature. Proposed law retains present law and adds strategies to
implement a nursing articulation plan to the list of issues to be studied.
Effective August 1, 2019.
