2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 108 BY SENATOR COLOMB AND REPRESENTATIVE SMITH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and recognize the Robert A. Bogan Baton Rouge Fire Museum for educating the public on fire safety and the rich history of firefighters and emergency responders across the state and nation. WHEREAS, the Robert A. Bogan Baton Rouge Fire Museum is located at 427 Laurel Street in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, the Central Fire Station in Baton Rouge was also known as the "Old Bogan Fire Station" and was the first fire station in the capital city built to house motorized fire engines; it was completed in 1924 by Fire Chief Robert A. Bogan, who served as chief from 1918 to 1959, and is regarded as the father of modern firefighting in the capital region; and WHEREAS, the Central Fire Station was renamed in 1959 following the death of Chief Bogan, who at the time of his death was nearing fifty years in firefighting, including forty-one years as a paid employee and eight years as a volunteer; and WHEREAS, today the station serves as a museum offering a complete history of the Baton Rouge Fire Department and educating the public on fire safety and the rich history of firefighters and emergency responders across the state and nation; and WHEREAS, artifacts housed in the museum date back to the days when Chief Bogan took the reins of the department and turned the Pelican Hook and Ladder Co. from a volunteer fire board to a professional fire department on January 1, 1918; and WHEREAS, the museum is part of a nationwide network of fire museums sharing our first responders' history and culture with the rest of the world. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes and commends the Robert A. Bogan Baton Rouge Fire Museum for educating the public on fire safety and the rich history of firefighters and emergency responders across the state and nation.
