SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 12

COMMENDATIONS. Commends T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Calcasieu
Parish upon being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an "Exemplary High
Performance School" and as a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Calcasieu Parish upon being
3 recognized as an "Exemplary High Performance School" and as a 2018 National
4 Blue Ribbon School.
5 WHEREAS, T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Calcasieu Parish has been
6 recognized by the United States Department of Education as an "Exemplary High
7 Performance School" and as a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School; and
8 WHEREAS, T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School is a kindergarten through fifth
9 grade public school with an enrollment of approximately three hundred students; and
10 WHEREAS, offering a nationally certified fine and performing arts program, T.S.
11 Cooley allows students to participate in enriching experiences every day; and
12 WHEREAS, T.S. Cooley encourages students to take learning risks, expand their
13 creativity, develop leadership attributes, and cultivate communication skills; and
14 WHEREAS, schools earning the honor of being named as "blue ribbon" are so
15 designated by the U.S. Department of Education because they are either high performing or
16 have closed a significant achievement gap, demonstrating that all students can achieve at
17 high levels; and
18 WHEREAS, an "exemplary high-performing school" is designated by the state and

1 places the school among the state's highest-performing schools as measured by Louisiana
2 assessments and where subgroup performance and high school graduation rates are also at
3 the highest levels; and
4 WHEREAS, both designations are significant achievements by the teachers and staff
5 of T.S. Cooley and should occasion great pride for all those contributing to the school's
6 success, particularly, the students and their supportive families.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8 commend T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Calcasieu Parish upon being
9 recognized as an "Exemplary High Performance School" and as a 2018 National Blue
10 Ribbon School.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted, on
12 behalf of the staff and students, to Emily Alcock, principal at T.S. Cooley Elementary
13 Magnet School in Calcasieu Parish.
