SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 127
BY SENATORS CARTER AND MORRELL AND REPRESENTATIVE GARY CARTER
CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences on the death of Eric J. Songy.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of
3 Eric John Songy.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regrets and profound sorrow that the citizens of
5 Louisiana learned of Eric John Songy, at the age of sixty-six, passing away peacefully at his
6 home on March 9, 2019; and 
7 WHEREAS, Eric Songy was born to Iris Manning and Kenneth Songy on
8 April 19, 1952; he was a graduate of St. John Vianney Preparatory High School and
9 Nicholls State University, and attended Clemson University; and
10 WHEREAS, Eric Songy, a humble man, is survived by his wife of forty-four years,
11 Kathy Gisclair Songy; two daughters, Kasey Bealer and Kelly Nelson; four grandchildren,
12 Woodrow, Ruby, Asher and Angelle; a sister, Monica Trepagnier; and four brothers, Gary,
13 Kenny, Kirk and Daniel, who are all proud of his accomplishments; and
14 WHEREAS, he worked at Mississippi Chemical, Touro Infirmary, D.H. Holmes, and
15 Standard Coffee Service, where he retired as the IT Director and worked as an independent
16 IT consultant for many years; and 
17 WHEREAS, as a longtime Algiers community activist, Eric Songy was a proud
18 resident of Algiers and diligently served that community for more than thirty years; he was

1 a regular attendee at the Algiers' Development District board meetings, and president of the
2 Algiers' Neighborhood Association; and
3 WHEREAS, he was a former president of the Edna Karr PTO and the Bocage Civic
4 Association, member of the Welcome Table New Orleans, and the Algiers Police Advisory
5 Committee (APAC), and chair of the Algiers Neighborhood Presidents Council (ANPC); and 
6 WHEREAS, Eric Songy was also involved with various groups such as Algiers One,
7 the Mayor's Neighborhood Summit, the "New" Friends of Brechtel Park, NORDC
8 Community Advisory Team, Mardi Gras Police Breakfast, and the Association for Gifted
9 and Talented Students; and 
10 WHEREAS, he spearheaded the "Fix My Streets" campaign on the Westbank and
11 worked closely with the Fourth District Police Department and Brian Legarde from Project
12 NOLA to help keep the community safe; and 
13 WHEREAS, Eric John Songy, a civic leader and community activist, will always be
14 remembered and appreciated by the Algiers community. 
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16 express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Eric John Songy and extend
17 enduring appreciation for his tremendous pride, honor, and community service in Algiers,
18 Louisiana.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
20 Kathy Gisclair Songy.
