Expresses condolences upon the death of Betty Jane Bates. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of 3 Betty Jane Bates. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana 5 learned of the death of Betty Jane Bates on January 18, 2019, at the age of seventy-seven; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bates was born on July 20, 1941, in Oberlin, Louisiana, to Judie 8 and Mary Lou Guillory; and 9 WHEREAS, she graduated from St. Charles Academy and raised her family in 10 Westlake, Louisiana; and 11 WHEREAS, a parishioner of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Mrs. Bates taught 12 catechism for more than fifty years, was an Extraordinary Minister, a lector at Mass, a 13 Catholic Daughter, and a member of the Lady's Altar Society, and Order of the Eastern Star; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, at the time of her passing, she was a member of the Westlake City 16 Council and a former employee of the McNeese State University Registrar's Office; and 17 WHEREAS, Betty Jane Bates is survived by her loving husband of thirty-five years, 18 Gerald Bates; four sons, Mark Bates, John Bates, Kevin Bates, and Brent Window; four Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 19 SLS 19RS-94 ORIGINAL 1 stepchildren, James, Phyllis, Barbar, and Jerri Bates; three brothers, Gerald, Rodney, and Jud 2 Guillory; a sister, Belinda Graham; thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and 3 WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, Judie and Mary Lou Guillory; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, the death of Betty Jane Bates has left a substantial void in her 6 community and a sense of loss in the citizens whose lives she touched, and her memory shall 7 live forever in the minds and hearts of all those who knew and loved this remarkable lady. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 9 express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Betty Jane Bates and extends 10 enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she will forever bring to her 11 community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America. 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 13 family of Betty Jane Bates.
