2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 28 BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE POPE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To designate May 28, 2019, as "Certified Louisiana Day". WHEREAS, the Certified Louisiana, Certified Cajun, Certified Creole, and Certified Farm to Table logo program was established by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to promote Louisiana made, grown, manufactured, or processed products aimed at enhancing and promoting Louisiana's agricultural industry; and WHEREAS, the program serves to brand and promote Louisiana and its agricultural commodities and puts Louisiana companies at an advantage when consumers see a Certified Louisiana product on the shelves; and WHEREAS, the Certified Louisiana logo program requires that products be made, grown, manufactured, processed, produced, or substantially transformed in the state of Louisiana to be eligible to use the Certified Louisiana logo; and WHEREAS, the Certified Cajun logo program requires products to be representative of the culture that is generally of Acadian descent and at least fifty percent of the product must be made, grown, produced, manufactured, processed, or packed in Louisiana to be eligible to use the Certified Cajun logo; and WHEREAS, the Certified Creole logo program requires that at least fifty percent of the product be made, grown, produced, manufactured, processed, or packed in Louisiana and shall be of Creole heritage to be eligible to use the Certified Creole logo; and WHEREAS, Certified Farm to Table logo program requires that the product be grown, caught, or raised in the state of Louisiana to be eligible to use the Certified Farm to Table logo; and WHEREAS, the Certified Craft Beverage logo program applies to beer, wine, spirits, and craft beverages and requires that the craft beverage product be crafted, bottled, brewed, vinified, or distilled in the state of Louisiana to be eligible to use the Certified Craft Beverage logo; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 28 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the program also brings a sense of awareness to buyers that the food on their table was sourced from local growers, and it aids in marketing products to consumers for farmers, processors, producers, and suppliers; and WHEREAS, consumers purchase certified Louisiana products because they are from the unique culture of Louisiana, the dollars remain in Louisiana, they are assisting a Louisiana family in earning a living, and they are supporting local growers and businesses; and WHEREAS, with the recognition of the Certified Louisiana logos, buyers support local homegrown companies and stimulate the economy. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 28, 2019, as "Certified Louisiana Day". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry.
