SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 4

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Recognizes June 12, 2019, as Women Veterans Day in
Louisiana.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To recognize June 12, 2019, as Women Veterans Day in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, Louisiana has more than 284,000 veterans living in our state, of which
4 28,407 are women veterans; and
5 WHEREAS, Louisiana recognizes the courage and contribution of servicewomen and
6 their families; and
7 WHEREAS, on June 12, 1948, the Women's Armed Services Integration Act was
8 signed into law, allowing women to serve as regular members of the military; and
9 WHEREAS, in July 1957, the first female service personnel were inducted into the
10 Louisiana National Guard as part of the 159th Evacuation Hospital, and in November of
11 1972, the Louisiana National Guard's first female soldiers were enlisted in nonmedical units;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, Louisiana honors our women veterans who voluntarily put themselves
14 in harm's way to fiercely defend and protect our nation.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16 recognize June 12, 2019, as Women Veterans Day in Louisiana.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
18 commend the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs for its increased efforts to educate

1 Louisiana on the contributions of women veterans and to honor and celebrate the service of
2 Louisiana Women Veterans, and encourage all of Louisiana's citizens to express their
3 gratitude and appreciation to Louisiana's Women Veterans for their service.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
5 governor of Louisiana and the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
