COMMENDATIONS. Commends Easterseals, Inc. on its 100
th
Anniversary.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To congratulate Easterseals, Inc. on its one hundredth anniversary as an effective advocate
3 for individuals with disabilities and to commend Easterseals Louisiana for the
4 indispensable resources it provides to the local community and its fund-raising
5 efforts.
6 WHEREAS, established in 1919, Easterseals Inc. celebrates a century of positive
7 impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families throughout the United
8 States; and
9 WHEREAS, Easterseals, Inc., a national organization, supports a network of seventy
10 affiliates with over five hundred sites found in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and
11 Australia; and
12 WHEREAS, established in 1951, Easterseals Louisiana now serves thousands of
13 disabled individuals annually; and
14 WHEREAS, with its beginnings in services for children with disabilities, Easterseals
15 has expanded opportunities for disabled individuals to include all age groups; and
16 WHEREAS, Easterseals offers home services and community-based support systems
17 in five distinct developmental areas so that those individuals with a wide range of disabilities
18 may live, learn, work, play, and react at improved levels; and

1 WHEREAS, these comprehensive programs include adult and senior services, autism
2 spectrum services, medical rehabilitation, mental health services, and residential services;
3 and
4 WHEREAS, other available programs are designed to assist children and adults to
5 learn, and often to relearn, basic functions and to master developmental skills; and
6 WHEREAS, Easterseals also provides evaluation devices such as online screening
7 tools, early intervention, child care, and educational services; and
8 WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 27, 2019, Easterseals Louisiana celebrates the Eighth
9 Annual Chocolate & Champagne Benefit to recognize the last one hundred successful years
10 of its parent organization and to honor Sid Potts, the 2019 Lily Award Recipient; and
11 WHEREAS, ninety-one percent of all funds expended by Easterseals Louisiana are
12 used for direct services to its constituents; and
13 WHEREAS, Easterseals Louisiana remains focused on its legacy of service as it
14 embraces the future with a renewed commitment to enhance possibilities for individuals of
15 all ages and abilities.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
17 congratulate Easterseals, Inc. on its one hundredth anniversary as an effective advocate for
18 individuals with disabilities.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
20 commend Easterseals Louisiana for sixty-eight years of the indispensable service to the
21 community and for its successful fund-raising efforts.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
23 Tracy Garner, President and CEO, and Mrs. Bernie Bitting, Director of Development, of
24 Easterseals Louisiana.
