SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 48

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Abigail Elizabeth Martin upon being selected as a
recipient of a 2019 College Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Abigail Elizabeth Martin upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 College
3 Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus
4 Foundation Scholarship.
5 WHEREAS, Abigail Elizabeth Martin is a sophomore at Louisiana State University
6 and the daughter of Amanda and Graham Martin; and
7 WHEREAS, she attended Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and Saint Louis
8 Catholic High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and is currently pursuing a bachelor's
9 degree in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Human Movement Science, as well as a
10 minor in Psychology, at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge; and
11 WHEREAS, Abigail has always strived to perform her best in school despite
12 overcoming a vision problem, known as amblyopia; and
13 WHEREAS, she excelled in high school, both academically and athletically, has
14 maintained a 4.2 grade point average, been awarded the President's Honors Roll distinction
15 at LSU, and is a TOPS recipient; and
16 WHEREAS, Abigail has a passion for serving others, whether giving manicures to
17 elderly women at nursing homes, making blankets for the women's shelter, volunteering at
18 the Special Olympics for children with disabilities, or assisting in building a house for

1 Habitat for Humanity; and
2 WHEREAS, volunteering has impacted and continues to impact her life and because
3 of her love for serving others, she hopes to one day become an occupational therapist and
4 continue to serve others in need; and
5 WHEREAS, Abigail is an officer in the Delta Delta Delta sorority at LSU and is
6 passionate about her sorority's philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and
7 hopes to fulfill her ultimate career goal of working as an occupational therapist at that
8 facility; and
9 WHEREAS, with the help of her sorority sisters, her chapter has raised more than
10 one hundred fifty thousand dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through events
11 such as Delta Desserts, Sincerely Yours, D-Hop, and a St. Jude Soiree; and
12 WHEREAS, not only is Abigail involved in her sorority, she is also a member of the
13 Pre-Occupational Therapy Club at LSU and recently became a member of the Golden Key
14 International Honour Society; and
15 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
16 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
17 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
18 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
19 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
20 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
21 WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence
22 Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Women of Excellence; and
23 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being
24 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
25 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019;
26 and
27 WHEREAS, Abigail has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence
28 Award in the category of College Woman of Excellence and is also a recipient of a
29 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
30 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and

1 community service; and
2 WHEREAS, Abigail merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her
3 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the
4 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Abigail upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence
5 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and a Louisiana
6 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8 commend Abigail Elizabeth Martin upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award
9 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of College
10 Woman of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
11 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
12 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
13 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
15 Abigail Elizabeth Martin.
