SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 50

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Gabrielle Elyse Fontenot upon being selected as a
recipient of a 2019 High School Woman of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Gabrielle Elyse Fontenot upon her receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence
3 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category
4 of High School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana
5 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
6 WHEREAS, Gabrielle Elyse Fontenot is a senior at Sacred Heart High School in
7 Ville Platte, Louisiana, is the daughter of Jacob and Monique Fontenot, and has three sisters,
8 Amelia, Sophia, and Genevieve, and one brother, Andrew; and
9 WHEREAS, Gabrielle has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout high
10 school while taking dual enrollment and honors courses; and
11 WHEREAS, throughout her years at Sacred Heart High School, she has been a leader
12 in numerous clubs and activities, including student council, National Honor Society, 4-H,
13 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Interact, FOUND, cross country, Quiz Bowl,
14 and pep squad; and
15 WHEREAS, Gabrielle placed first in the District Literary Rally in English I, English
16 II, and Chemistry, and placed superior in the extemporaneous speaking contest; and
17 WHEREAS, she also placed first in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures,
18 Impromptu Speaking, and Parliamentary Procedures at the state level in FBLA, and was a

1 top fifteen competitor in the National FBLA Parliamentary Procedures contest; and
2 WHEREAS, she was named Student of the Year, served as state reporter and state
3 secretary for the Louisiana FBLA, and is a member of the Louisiana 4-H Executive Board
4 and the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council; and
5 WHEREAS, additionally, Gabrielle was named Interactor of the Year and recipient
6 of the Louisiana FBLA Richard D. Clanton Award; and
7 WHEREAS, she was named to the Louisiana Cross Country Academic All State
8 Composite team and has also been recognized as a National Honor Society scholarship
9 winner; and
10 WHEREAS, Gabrielle is involved in her local community as a nursing home
11 volunteer, retreat leader, food and toy drive leader, and as an altar server for St. Ann Church
12 Parish; and
13 WHEREAS, she will attend Louisiana State University as an Ogden Honors College
14 student and pursue a dual degree in economics and agricultural business, attend law school
15 after receiving her undergraduate degree, and plans to work in the public sector as a
16 legislative attorney or policy analyst; and
17 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
18 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
19 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
20 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
21 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
22 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
23 WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence
24 Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Woman of Excellence; and
25 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being
26 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
27 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019;
28 and
29 WHEREAS, Gabrielle has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence
30 Award in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and is also a recipient of a

1 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
2 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and
3 community service; and
4 WHEREAS, Gabrielle merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for
5 her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for
6 the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Gabrielle upon receipt of a 2019 Women of
7 Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a
8 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10 commend Gabrielle Elyse Fontenot upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award
11 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School
12 Woman of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
13 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
14 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
15 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Gabrielle Elyse Fontenot.
