2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 54 BY SENATORS LONG, ALARIO, ALLAIN, APPEL, BARROW, BISHOP, BOUDREAUX, CARTER, CHABERT, CLAITOR, COLOMB, CORTEZ, DONAHUE, ERDEY, FANNIN, GATTI, HENSGENS, HEWITT, JOHNS, LAFLEUR, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MARTINY, MILKOVICH, MILLS, MIZELL, MORRELL, MORRISH, PEACOCK, PETERSON, PRICE, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Paul Hardy upon being inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, Paul Hardy began his political service in 1971 with his election to the Louisiana Senate representing Iberia and St. Martin parishes; and WHEREAS, Hardy continued his service to Louisiana with his election as secretary of state in 1976, his victory being one of the greatest upsets in Louisiana history; and WHEREAS, from 1980-1984, he served as Louisiana's Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development; and WHEREAS, during Hardy's time as lieutenant governor, from 1988 to 1992, he left one of his most lasting legacies: leading the effort to enact legislation to create "Tax Free Shopping", which still gives foreigners an incentive to visit Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Hardy was born and educated in Louisiana and still resides in Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, of all his successes, none is greater or more important than his loving marriage to Sandra Gatlin Hardy, their two loving children, and two granddaughters. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Paul Hardy upon being inducted into the 2019 Class of the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame.
