WHEREAS, Ronald James Gomez Sr. is a well-known print and broadcast journalist, author, businessman, and politician from Lafayette, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, he was born October 18, 1934, attended Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University for one year before entering the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, he began his career as a broadcast journalist and was the radio voice of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns football and basketball teams for over twenty years; and WHEREAS, in 1978, he was named the president of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and played a key role in the completion of the Cajundome; and WHEREAS, from 1980 to 1989 he served as the representative in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 44, and was known among his colleagues as a skilled legislator and negotiator; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 68 ENROLLED WHEREAS, from 1990 to 1992, he was named by Governor Buddy Roemer as secretary of natural resources, and he chaired the Oil Spill Task Force and led efforts to combat the state's shrinking coastline; and WHEREAS, he currently is the operating partner and publisher of the free weekly conservative newspaper, The Acadian Gazette, and has published three popular books; and WHEREAS, a devoted public servant, businessman, and author, Ronald James Gomez Sr. has rightly earned a place among the many legends in the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Ronald James Gomez Sr. upon his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ronald James Gomez Sr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Page 2 of 2
