Berry" Porter upon being inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend T.B. "T. Berry or Teaberry" Porter upon being named to the 2019 Louisiana 3 Sports Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Legislature of the State of 5 Louisiana have learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon T.B. "T. Berry" Porter on 6 his induction in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and 7 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the history of sports 8 in Louisiana, including the achievements of more than three hundred Louisiana athletes, 9 coaches, and other sports figures; and 10 WHEREAS, for more than a half-century the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has 11 recognized outstanding achievements in sports activities; and 12 WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by an expert panel 13 of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually 14 consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and 15 WHEREAS, this year marks the 60th Annual Louisiana sports Hall of Fame 16 Induction Celebration; and 17 WHEREAS, and what better time to honor Louisiana's first professional rodeo 18 cowboy and a Leesville native who was inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 69 SLS 19RS-778 ORIGINAL 1 2015, T.B. "T. Berry" Porter; and 2 WHEREAS, he has been known to say that his career began back at the Vernon 3 Parish Fair, at the age of three, when he first rode a goat; and 4 WHEREAS, in 1949, at age twenty-two Porter traveled to New York City's Madison 5 Square Garden where he first took the National calf roping title, and was named World 6 Champion Calf Roper making him the first "rookie" to win the title among other titles and 7 top events throughout his career; and 8 WHEREAS, T.B. "T. Berry" Porter's career spans over four decades, with many titles 9 and accolades to his credit, all while managing a cattle ranch, he continued to bolster high 10 school rodeo programs and served as a national judge; and 11 WHEREAS, he has left a strong legacy of excellence in sportsmanship and rodeo 12 sports-related endeavors throughout his life; and 13 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 14 and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication 15 of extraordinary men like T.B. "T. Berry" Porter who strive to show others through hard 16 work and dedication that all dreams are possible. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 18 commend T.B. "T. Berry" Porter upon being named to the 2019 Louisiana Sports Hall of 19 Fame. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 21 T.B. "T. Berry" Porter.
