SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 69

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend T.B. "T. Berry" or "Teaberry" Porter upon being named to the 2019 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Legislature of the State of
Louisiana have learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon T.B. "T. Berry" Porter on
his induction in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the history of sports
in Louisiana, including the achievements of more than three hundred Louisiana athletes,
coaches, and other sports figures; and
WHEREAS, for more than a half-century the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has
recognized outstanding achievements in sports activities; and
WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by an expert panel
of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually
consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 60th Annual Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Induction Celebration; and 
WHEREAS, and what better time to honor Louisiana's first professional rodeo
cowboy and a Leesville native who was inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in
2015, T.B. "T. Berry" Porter; and
WHEREAS, he has been known to say that his career began back at the Vernon
Parish Fair, at the age of three, when he first rode a goat; and 
WHEREAS, in 1949, at age twenty-two, Porter traveled to New York City's Madison
Square Garden where he first took the national calf roping title and was named World
Champion Calf Roper, making him the first "rookie" to win the title among other titles and
top events throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, T.B. "T. Berry" Porter's career spans over four decades, with many titles
and accolades to his credit, all while managing a cattle ranch as he continued to bolster high
school rodeo programs and served as a national judge; and
WHEREAS, he has left a strong legacy of excellence in sportsmanship and rodeo
sports-related endeavors throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication
of extraordinary men like T.B. "T. Berry" Porter who strive to show others through hard
work and dedication that all dreams are possible.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend T.B. "T. Berry" Porter upon being named to the 2019 Louisiana Sports Hall of
Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
T.B. "T. Berry" Porter.
