SLS 19RS-240 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 73 BY SENATOR PEACOCK COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers soccer team on its first state championship. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers soccer team of 3 Shreveport on its first Division IV state championship. 4 WHEREAS, the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers soccer team celebrated an 5 exceptional year with an overall record of 25-4-3 in the regular season; and 6 WHEREAS, the Lady Flyers went on to earn the title of Division IV state champions 7 after defeating Episcopal of Acadiana by a score of three to zero at the 2019 Allstate Sugar 8 Bowl/LHSAA Girls' Soccer State Championship on February 22, 2019, in Lafayette; and 9 WHEREAS, this historic victory was the first Louisiana High School Athletic 10 Association Division IV victory for the team; this was the fifth visit to the championship by 11 the Loyola Lady Flyers and it was the charm; and 12 WHEREAS, Coach Mark Matlock, who was named "Coach of the Year", and the 13 members of the superb team performed at a first-rate level of excellence throughout the 14 2018-2019 season and playoffs, and each of these great athletes deserves recognition for her 15 vital contribution to the winning effort; and 16 WHEREAS, the Lady Flyers team is composed of numerous talented players who 17 garnered extraordinary distinctions for Division IV, District 1 All-District that include 18 Kalli Matlock, most valuable player; Hope Davis, offensive player of the year; Janie Ponthie, Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 73 SLS 19RS-240 ORIGINAL 1 defensive player of the year; with nearly all of the team roster placed on either All District 2 First Team or Second Team; and 3 WHEREAS, this distinguished team of champions includes Erin Campbell, 4 Sarah Campbell, Morgan Collier, Faith Davis, Hope Davis, Chloe Dean, Eliza Drummond, 5 Aidan Heard, Kennedy Jarrett, Anna Claire Johnson, Morgan Kleinpeter, Celeste Lirette, 6 Megan Maciulski, Kalli Matlock, Emily Moore, Gracie Payne, Janie Ponthie, 7 Mary Frances Ratcliff, Rachel Richards, Mary Kathryn Smith, Ainsley Stansell, Sarah 8 Tullis, and Meadow Wall; and 9 WHEREAS, the traits of good sportsmanship and the innate abilities of the team 10 leaders contributed to the formation of unity and trust that have made this championship 11 season possible; and 12 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved 13 without the guidance and skill of Head Coach Mark Matlock along with the assistance of 14 faculty, boosters, and family members who have contributed their time and effort to the 15 success of the school's soccer program; and 16 WHEREAS, the alumni and fans of Loyola College Prep recognize the immense 17 pride and distinguished honor that the girls soccer team brings to its school, community, and 18 state. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 20 commend and congratulate the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers girls soccer team upon 21 winning the 2018-2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls' Soccer State Championship for 22 Division IV. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend 24 best wishes to the players, coaches, and all who are involved in this fine athletics program 25 as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 27 Coach Mark Matlock and Principal Johnny LeBlanc of Loyola College Prep.
