2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 73 BY SENATOR PEACOCK AND REPRESENTATI VE CARMODY A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers soccer team of Shreveport on its first Division IV state championship. WHEREAS, the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers soccer team celebrated an exceptional year with an overall record of 25-4-3 in the regular season; and WHEREAS, the Lady Flyers went on to earn the title of Division IV state champions after defeating Episcopal of Acadiana by a score of three to zero at the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls' Soccer State Championship on February 22, 2019, in Lafayette; and WHEREAS, this historic victory was the first Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV victory for the team; this was the fifth visit to the championship by the Loyola Lady Flyers and it was the charm; and WHEREAS, Coach Mark Matlock, who was named "Coach of the Year", and the members of the superb team performed at a first-rate level of excellence throughout the 2018-2019 season and playoffs, and each of these great athletes deserves recognition for her vital contribution to the winning effort; and WHEREAS, the Lady Flyers team is composed of numerous talented players who garnered extraordinary distinctions for Division IV, District 1 All-District that include Kalli Matlock, most valuable player; Hope Davis, offensive player of the year; Janie Ponthie, defensive player of the year; with nearly all of the team roster placed on either All District First Team or Second Team; and WHEREAS, this distinguished team of champions includes Erin Campbell, Sarah Campbell, Morgan Collier, Faith Davis, Hope Davis, Chloe Dean, Eliza Drummond, Aidan Heard, Kennedy Jarrett, Anna Claire Johnson, Morgan Kleinpeter, Celeste Lirette, Megan Maciulski, Kalli Matlock, Emily Moore, Gracie Payne, Janie Ponthie, Mary Frances Ratcliff, Rachel Richards, Mary Kathryn Smith, Ainsley Stansell, Sarah Tullis, and Meadow Wall; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 73 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the traits of good sportsmanship and the innate abilities of the team leaders contributed to the formation of unity and trust that have made this championship season possible; and WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skill of Head Coach Mark Matlock along with the assistance of faculty, boosters, and family members who have contributed their time and effort to the success of the school's soccer program; and WHEREAS, the alumni and fans of Loyola College Prep recognize the immense pride and distinguished honor that the girls soccer team brings to its school, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Loyola College Prep Lady Flyers girls soccer team upon winning the 2018-2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls' Soccer State Championship for Division IV. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and all who are involved in this fine athletics program as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Coach Mark Matlock and Principal Johnny LeBlanc of Loyola College Prep.
