SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 85

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Wanda Bennett on her many contributions to public
service.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Wanda Bennett for her years of exemplary public service and to congratulate
3 her upon the occasion of her retirement from the Bossier Parish Police Jury.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the
5 dedicated public service that Wanda Bennett has provided to the citizens living and working
6 in Bossier Parish as the elected police juror representing District Three; and
7 WHEREAS, since her election to the police jury in 2008, her commitment to the
8 growth, safety, and prosperity of the parish and its people has been exceptional; and
9 WHEREAS, Wanda Bennett has served Bossier Parish in a myriad of capacities that
10 includes election to the Bossier City Council from 1978 until 1989; and
11 WHEREAS, during her fourteen-year tenure as the 911 System Director for the
12 Bossier Parish Communications District, she was influential in the implementation of an
13 emergency call network throughout all of the parish; and
14 WHEREAS, she also served as state president of the Association of Public Safety
15 Communications Officials-International, the oldest and largest organization of public safety
16 communications professionals; and
17 WHEREAS, she also functioned as state president of the National Emergency
18 Number Association, a professional network focused on the issues of 911 communications,

1 policy, technology, operations, and education; and
2 WHEREAS, previous to her election to the police jury, Mrs. Bennett acted as
3 president of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce; and
4 WHEREAS, while on the Board of Directors of Coordinating and Development
5 Corporation, Wanda Bennett monitored the availability of local public services and the
6 expansion of economic opportunity developments throughout the Ark-La-Tex; and
7 WHEREAS, Wanda Bennett has been a mentor and role model for newly elected
8 members of the Bossier Parish Police Jury, and has always provided her seasoned guidance
9 to novice jurors; and
10 WHEREAS, born in Marshall, Texas, and reared in north Louisiana, Wanda
11 graduated from Bossier High School and continued her educational pursuits by completing
12 professional studies at Bossier Community College, Louisiana State University-Shreveport,
13 and Centenary College of Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, Wanda is well respected among her peers for that "can do" attitude, in
15 her lengthy career, she has applied years of institutional knowledge, skill, and expertise to
16 improve specific issues that involve parish government; and
17 WHEREAS, she has been honored for her many accomplishments with receipt of the
18 Athena Leadership Award from the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and by
19 induction into the Bossier High School Hall of Fame; and
20 WHEREAS, as a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Bossier
21 City, Wanda is also an active member of the church choir; and
22 WHEREAS, she was married to her late husband, Ernest "Bo" Bennett until his
23 passing in 2014, and their union has been blessed with three children, five grandchildren,
24 five great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom she holds
25 dear to her heart; and
26 WHEREAS, as an enthusiastic pacesetter, Wanda Bennett exemplifies all the finest
27 qualities of a proficient parochial official who continuously pursues the best interests of
28 those she serves.
29 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
30 commend Bossier Parish Police Juror Wanda Bennett for her invaluable public service to the

1 citizens of the state of Louisiana.
2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
3 congratulate her on the occasion of her retirement.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
5 Wanda Bennett.
