SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 85

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Wanda Bennett for her years of exemplary public service and to congratulate
her upon the occasion of her retirement from the Bossier Parish Police Jury.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the
dedicated public service that Wanda Bennett has provided to the citizens living and working
in Bossier Parish as the elected police juror representing District Three; and
WHEREAS, since her election to the police jury in 2008, her commitment to the
growth, safety, and prosperity of the parish and its people has been exceptional; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Bennett has served Bossier Parish in a myriad of capacities that
includes election to the Bossier City Council from 1978 until 1989; and 
WHEREAS, during her fourteen-year tenure as the 911 System Director for the
Bossier Parish Communications District, she was influential in the implementation of an
emergency call network throughout all of the parish; and
WHEREAS, she also served as state president of the Association of Public Safety
Communications Officials-International, the oldest and largest organization of public safety
communications professionals; and
WHEREAS, she also functioned as state president of the National Emergency
Number Association, a professional network focused on the issues of 911 communications,
policy, technology, operations, and education; and
WHEREAS, previous to her election to the police jury, Mrs. Bennett acted as
president of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, while on the Board of Directors of Coordinating and Development
Corporation, Wanda Bennett monitored the availability of local public services and the
expansion of economic opportunity developments throughout the Ark-La-Tex; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Bennett has been a mentor and role model for newly elected
members of the Bossier Parish Police Jury, and has always provided her seasoned guidance
to novice jurors; and

WHEREAS, born in Marshall, Texas, and reared in north Louisiana, Wanda
graduated from Bossier High School and continued her educational pursuits by completing
professional studies at Bossier Community College, Louisiana State University-Shreveport,
and Centenary College of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Wanda is well respected among her peers for that "can do" attitude, in
her lengthy career, she has applied years of institutional knowledge, skill, and expertise to
improve specific issues that involve parish government; and
WHEREAS, she has been honored for her many accomplishments with receipt of the
Athena Leadership Award from the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and by
induction into the Bossier High School Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, as a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Bossier
City, Wanda is also an active member of the church choir; and 
WHEREAS, she was married to her late husband, Ernest "Bo" Bennett until his
passing in 2014, and their union has been blessed with three children, five grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom she holds
dear to her heart; and 
WHEREAS, as an enthusiastic pacesetter, Wanda Bennett exemplifies all the finest
qualities of a proficient parochial official who continuously pursues the best interests of
those she serves.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Bossier Parish Police Juror Wanda Bennett for her invaluable public service to the
citizens of the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
congratulate her on the occasion of her retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Wanda Bennett.
