SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 86

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Matt Dunigan on being named as a 2019 inductee into the Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall
of fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2019 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Matt
Dunigan; and
WHEREAS, born in Lakewood, Ohio, and raised in Dallas, Texas, he played
quarterback for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs from 1979 to 1982; and
WHEREAS, while leading the Bulldogs, Matt broke nine school records, including
Terry Bradshaw's career all-time passing mark with 7,042 yards; and 
WHEREAS, Matt was selected as a Kadak/AP Division I-AA All-American as a
senior, passing for 2,843 yards, throwing 23 touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to 9-2
records, winning the Southland Conference; and reaching the I-AA semi-finals; and 
WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments, Matt was inducted into the
Louisiana Tech Hall of Fame in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Matt continued his playing days in the Canadian Football League
(CFL), competing for six teams over an illustrious fourteen year hall of fame career from
1983 to 1996; and 
WHEREAS, a three-time All-CFL quarterback, Matt is the only quarterback in
league history to lead four different teams to the Grey Cup, the CLF's championship game,
with six total appearances, and winning in 1987 for Edmonton and 1991 for Toronto; and
WHEREAS, over his CFL career, Matt rushed 850 times for 5,031 yards (fifth all-
time by a quarterback) and 77 touchdowns (fourth all-time by a quarterback); and

WHEREAS, when Matt retired he was ranked second in all-time passing statistics
(3,057 completions in 5,476 attempts for 43,857 yards and 306 touchdown passes) and still
holds the record for most passing yards in a game (713 yards); and
WHEREAS, Matt was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2006, and has been
recognized as one of the CFL's top fifty players of the modern era. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Matt Dunigan on being named as a 2019 inductee into the Louisiana Sports Hall
of Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Matt Dunigan.
