2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 88 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the Captain Shreve High School Lady Gators upon winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A girls' basketball state championship and to congratulate the players and coaches on an extraordinary 2018-2019 season. WHEREAS, the Captain Shreve High School Lady Gators completed a sensational regular season with an overall record of 33-3 and a district record of 12-0, then advanced to the playoffs of the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Championship to win the first-ever state title in Class 5A girls' basketball in CSHS history; and WHEREAS, during the "March Madness" tournament on March 2, 2019, at the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria, No. 9 seed Lady Gators from Shreveport defeated No. 6 seed Lady Yellow Jackets from Denham Springs by a score of 66-57; and WHEREAS, the Lady Gators finished the season ranked No. 43 in the nation and ranked No. 6 in the state by Maxpreps.com; and WHEREAS, the members of this phenomenal squad include LaErica Carter, Madison Davis, Kiayra Ellis, Kennedi Heard, Quensey Hopkins, Desiree Hudson, Addison Martin, Jordan McLemore, Jalia Redd, Nahja Scott, Aaliyah Stevenson, and Kyra Stokes; all of whom merit special recognition and congratulations for their performance both on and off the court and for their never-say-die competitive spirit; and WHEREAS, Head Coach Keith Greene along with assistant coaches, Thaddeus Houston and Morgan Williams, have instilled in these young athletes the winning attitude necessary to become great basketball players, accomplished academics, and outstanding members of the community; together, they strived to capture the Class 5A title; and WHEREAS, four Lady Gators led individual shooting tallies in double figures in the championship game, Kennedi Heard with 17 points, Kiayra Ellis with 13 points, and Aaliyah Stevenson and Addison Martin scored 12 points each; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 88 ENROLLED WHEREAS, during tournament play, guard Aaliyah Stevenson shot three consecutive 3-pointers and was honored with the Most Outstanding Player Award; and WHEREAS, the players on the Captain Shreve High School girls' basketball team have earned these well-deserved accolades that exemplify their remarkable athletic ability, uncommon work ethic, and unselfish dedication to each other, particularly at the most demanding level of state athletic competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Captain Shreve High School Lady Gators upon winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association girls' basketball championship title for Class 5A. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head Coach Keith Greene and Principal Ginger Gustavson of Captain Shreve High School.
