SLS 19RS-1289 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 BY SENATOR CORTEZ COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators girls' tennis team from Youngsville, Louisiana on winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division IV State Tennis Championship. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Ascension Episcopal High School girls' tennis team on winning the 2019 3 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls Tennis State Championship-Division IV. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature 5 of Louisiana have learned of the great honor earned by the Ascension Episcopal High School 6 Blue Gators girls' tennis team from Youngsville, Louisiana, who won the Allstate Sugar 7 Bowl/LHSAA Division IV State Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 8 ULM's Heard Stadium in Monroe; and 9 WHEREAS, the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators girls' tennis team 10 capped a stellar 2018-2019 season, winning the state championship by earning twice as 11 many points (13) as the team runner-up, Christ Episcopal School; and 12 WHEREAS, this year's path to the championship game started years ago with the 13 Blue Gators girls' tennis team winning the regional tournament for the past six years in a 14 row, including this year's tournament, with five undefeated seasons including this 15 phenomenal 2019 season; they were the state runners-up in 2015; and won the state 16 championship in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and now again in 2019; and 17 WHEREAS, not only did the Blue Gators take home the team state championship 18 trophy, junior Alyse Cormier took home the girls' state singles championship trophy for the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 107 SLS 19RS-1289 ORIGINAL 1 fourth time including her seventh, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade years, Sophia Boatright 2 and Emmie Gage were also the double champions, and Ashleigh Burgess earned the LHSAA 3 All-Academic honor award for maintaining a 4.0 average all four years of high school; and 4 WHEREAS, this is the fifth state championship for seniors Catherine Anderson, 5 Sophia Boatright, and Ashleigh Burgess, all who started competing in middle school; and 6 WHEREAS, seniors Catherine Anderson, Sophia Boatright, Ashleigh Burgess, 7 Alaina Hardy, Ashlee Sandridge, and juniors Alyse Cormier and Emmie Gage, and freshman 8 Grace Fontenot were all vital members of this extraordinary winning team and all deserve 9 to be individually commended; and 10 WHEREAS, the members of this team performed at the highest levels of excellence 11 throughout their winning season, and each Blue Gator deserves recognition and honor for 12 her vital contribution to this winning effort; and 13 WHEREAS, Head Coach Stacy Boatright has instilled an ethic of winning in these 14 young athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills that have led to 15 success both on and off the court for the team; and 16 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Blue Gators 17 have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed, particularly at the 18 most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to 19 the team members, coaching staff, and support staff for the championship earned and the 20 sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest state Division IV girls' tennis honor 21 possible for Ascension Episcopal High School. 22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does 23 hereby commend the Ascension Episcopal High School girls' tennis team on winning the 24 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls Tennis State Championship-Division IV. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head 26 Coach Stacey Boatright and Athletic Director Eric Mouton at Ascension Episcopal School.
